Department Profile
The Finance Division reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 3,000 employees worldwide. Finance protects the Brokerage franchise by serving as Client of the Firm's books and records, and by contributing to firm wide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Brokerage's various industry and government regulators, and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community.
Background on the Position
The role will reside within Investment Management Finance (“IM Finance”) which is a team dedicated to providing support to Brokerage's Investment Management segment ("MSIM") a leading global asset manager across the public and private markets. Members of the IM Finance team can expect to be involved in accounting, finance and process transformation. The successful candidate will join the Distribution Finance Team located in Boston. This team’s responsibilities include management and oversight of the distribution expense processes for the Company’s broker-dealer including the following: expense account ownership, compliance with Sarbanes Oxley 404 internal controls, identifying risk and controls, monthly/quarterly reconciliations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support month-end accounting process by preparing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and financial reports.
- Analyze financial data and provide variance analysis to identify trends and potential areas of improvement.
- Ensure internal controls practices comply with Sarbanes-Oxley, internal policy and any other applicable rules and regulations.
- Provide support to internal and external interim and year-end audits.
- Assist with special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as needed.
Qualifications
- Required Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Desired 1-2 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in the financial services industry.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Solid understanding of internal controls.
- Preferred strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with SAP general ledger software and Hyperion Essbase a plus.
- Desired strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Flexibility to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
