Role Overview
The Paraplanner supports Q3 Advisors’ Integration Experience™ (IE) by conducting IE-specific data gathering, maintaining longitudinal client planning context, and building first-pass IE case designs under the direction of the Senior Planner and with quality-control oversight from the Financial Planning Specialist (FPS).
This role is client-facing, but not relationship-owning.
Paraplanners support meetings, gather information, and advance execution — while the Senior Planner remains the primary relationship lead and decision-maker.
Primary ResponsibilitiesIntegration Experience™
- Conduct IE-specific data gathering meetings with clients
- Prepare clients for IE Annual Reviews and planning discussions
- Maintain longitudinal awareness of the client’s planning history
- Build first-pass IE case designs based on the Six Pillars framework
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and planning opportunities for Planner review
- Prepare materials for IE Annual Reviews
- Attend and support IE meetings led by the Senior Planner
- Track execution against prior-year IE recommendations
- Update planning models following finalized tax returns
Rothology™
- Input data gathered by the Senior Planner during Rothology
- Organize client documents and planning inputs
Paraplanners do not:
- Design Rothology cases
- Collaborate on Rothology strategy
- Present Rothology plans to clients
Rothology case design remains the responsibility of the Financial Planning Specialist (FPS).
Client Interaction Expectations
Paraplanners interact with clients in a supporting, professional role, including:
- Leading structured data-gathering conversations for IE
- Asking clarifying questions to complete planning inputs
- Supporting Senior Planners during IE meetings
- Explaining process and next steps (not strategy or recommendations)
Paraplanners do not:
- Own the client relationship
- Make strategic recommendations
- Commit Q3 to a course of action
How This Role Works With OthersSenior Planner
- Receives direction on IE priorities
- Reviews and refines IE case designs
- Leads all strategic discussions and decisions
Financial Planning Specialist (FPS)
- Reviews IE cases for quality control
- Validates assumptions and outputs
- Flags issues requiring Planner judgment
SDR / Rothologist
- No involvement beyond scheduling logistics
Tax Preparation Team
- Provides finalized tax data used in IE models
Decision Rights & Boundaries
This role can:
- Gather client information
- Build IE planning cases and scenarios
- Propose planning ideas for review
- Support client meetings
This role cannot:
- Decide planning strategy
- Make client-facing recommendations
- Lead IE Annual Reviews
- Commit Q3 to a course of action

- Prior client-facing experience in financial planning, tax, or advisory roles
Preferred:
- Paraplanner designation or CFP® coursework
