Our client, an established and growing wealth management firm is seeking a strategic and dynamic Director of Retirement Plan Services to lead and expand our 401(k) and retirement plan offerings within an established and rapidly growing wealth management firm. This role is ideal for a driven professional with deep experience in 401(k) plan management, third-party coordination, and client relationship development.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for servicing and managing over 40 existing 401(k) plans while spearheading the growth and profitability of the retirement plan division. You’ll work closely with internal investment teams, external vendors, and plan sponsors to ensure operational excellence and regulatory compliance, while driving business development and cross-sell opportunities into wealth management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planning Management & Oversight
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for all 401(k) plan sponsors and participants.
- Oversee plan operations, including plan design consulting, compliance, investments, and vendor management.
- Partner with third-party fiduciaries, recordkeepers, and TPAs to ensure service excellence.
- Strategic Growth & Business Development
- Develop and execute a growth strategy to scale the 401(k) business unit profitably.
- Collaborate with internal marketing and sales to generate new leads.
- Represent the firm at networking events, industry conferences, and business development meetings.
- Compliance & Fiduciary Standards
- Ensure all plans are maintained in accordance with ERISA, DOL, and IRS regulations.
- Lead annual plan reviews, benchmarking, and fiduciary process documentation.
- Support audits, 5500 filings, and other regulatory requirements as needed.
- Team Leadership & Process Optimization
- Build and mentor a high-performing team to support plan growth.
- Streamline internal workflows to enhance service delivery and client satisfaction.
- Collaborate with wealth management advisors to cross-sell investment services and enhance client retention.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field (MBA or CFP®/AIF®/QPA® a plus)
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in 401(k) plan management or retirement plan consulting
- Strong knowledge of ERISA, DOL regulations, plan design, and fiduciary best practices
- Proven track record of business development and growing retirement plan assets
- Experience managing third-party fiduciaries, TPA’s and other service providers
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and project management skills
- FINRA Series 7 & 65 or willingness to obtain preferred
